Funerals

As a Funeral Celebrant, Don undertakes to meet the bereaved family promptly to help them create a fitting tribute to their loved one.

Some families like to be fully involved in the design and delivery of the ceremony. Again, “freedom of choice” is the guiding principle in producing a memorable ceremony that reflects the values and culture of the deceased and the grieving family.

In modern times, it is becoming a common practice to celebrate the life of the deceased, hence the concept of the person-centred funeral. For families who prefer it, Don will sit with them to gain an accurate picture of their loved one. He will listen attentively and then draft a eulogy, a celebratory history of the life lived, not just a dry ‘curriculum-vitae’ but a testament, a memorial and a tribute to the love one’s life. Essential to the accuracy of facts and capturing the right tone is the read-back to the family the day before the ceremony.

Don has composed and delivered many eulogies and rests on the generous praise of his referees. His public speaking skills have been honed over many years of professional life as a trainer and facilitator and in his community service as a volunteer announcer on 3RPH radio for the print handicapped.
